Amy Bazelon, LCPC
About Amy
My name is Amy Bazelon, and I would like to welcome you to my Clinical Psychotherapy practice website. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), living and working in the North Suburban Chicago region. Due to COVID, I am currently providing services exclusively through Telehealth. Despite my initial reservations to delivering psychotherapy services remotely (I love the energy of clients in the room!), both my clients and I have found it to be a surprisingly comfortable and highly effective option in most situations.
I have had a somewhat unconventional path towards my current psychotherapy practice. Graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Accounting, my early career was in the fields of accounting, finance and investment services. After retiring to raise my three children, I spent time as a PTO Treasurer, Substitute Teacher, Restorative Justice Mediator, and a Lake County, IL Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Ultimately, realizing that my true passion was in the area of Social Services, I returned to graduate school to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling. I have worked in both an agency setting (Jewish Child and Family Services) and had a private practice for many years. I have found that my dual career path, my role as a parent (and now grandparent), and the rich clinical experience I received at JCFS and with many years of private clients, have provided me with a wide range of personal and professional skills and experiences to draw from in my work with clients.
As a therapist, I would describe my way of working as ‘eclectic’, which is a way of saying that I pull from many treatment perspectives. This might mean that a situation/client would benefit from elements of multiple approaches (e.g. CBT, Psychodynamic, Family Systems, etc.) to address your personal treatment goals, and that some of our work together is to see what fits and continuously re-evaluate. Whether you have had many therapists in your lifetime, or never even considered it before now (even if this is entirely someone else’s idea of what you need!), I look forward to the opportunity to get to know you.
